GoodCaps was a project started during the pandemic with my two friends, Brian and Jason. By combining our unique skill sets, we created GoodCaps – a customizable avatar generator inspired by toy capsule dispensers from Japan. We met weekly on Discord for several months designing, drawing, and coding to put together an intuitive, functional, and delightful experience. We haven't launched officially in the App Store just yet but have a build running on TestFlight to share with friends as we make iterations.
I was interested in creating a custom emoji maker since reading about Bitmoji's acquisition by Snap for $100 million in 2016. I felt that the artwork was catered more towards the Western audience and thought it would be nice to create a version with an Eastern, "kawaii" influence. We also thought the character art wasn't as appealing and knew we could do a better job.

Our next goals are to make an in-app shop and do additional user testing to find insights and iterate before we ship the product. We also plan to make each asset into 3D in the near future. We don't see GoodCaps as a single product but the beginning of an intellectual property that continues to grow and takes shape into new experiences like games, animations, augmented reality and beyond.
